Burn4Free

Despite the fact it's really old, the CD is still very popular. That's because CDs are really cheap, they can store a fair amount of information and are supported by a wide range of devices. The problem is copying information on a CD. The newest versions of the Windows operating system feature a tool for burning CD and DVD discs, but unfortunately, this tool lacks a lot of features and it's extremely limited. A better idea would be using a 3rd party software for burning optical discs. One such software is Burn4Free. As the name states, this is a free application for burning any type of information on CD and DVD discs.

The Windows environment can be used for running the program and almost any version of the Microsoft operating system is supported, including XP and Windows 7. The software's requirements are not out of the ordinary, one just needs a CD/DVD recorder and an average computer system. Special attention should be paid to the installation process, as the program tries to install a toolbar into the web browser and the user should deselect the option for doing that in case he doesn't want the toolbar installed.

The interface of Burn4Free features some nice graphical buttons that offer quick and easy access to the program's features. One just has to select the desired files and folders he wants stored on the disc and that's it. Burn4Free can burn data or audio CDs. The name of the disc together with the writing speed can be customized.

Besides adding files and folders for burning on the discs, the program also allows opening ISO image files for burning. In the same manner, ISO files can be created from files and folders, for burning them later on. Rewritable discs can be easily erased using the special function provided by Burn4Free.

The Preferences window of Burn4Free allows customizing the look and feel and the functionality of the software. While files and folders are added to the CD/DVD project, the amount of space available on the disc wil be displayed in real time.
